When looking for insurance you will need to know:
a. length of trip
b. evacuation to nearby hospital or home country for medical attention
c. hotels or airflight cancellation
d. if you require covid coverage
I’ve traveled with and without insurance and have come to the realization that I am more concerned about the bottom line. Getting back to my country of origin and getting adequate medical care.
If you use your credit card to book the flights and hotels. It will usually cover your lost luggage, and usually, it is also covered by the airlines.
Rental car coverage collision and theft is typically covered by certain credit cards, but 3rd party liability is not.
As I have traveled for short periods and for over 6 weeks, you will need to make sure that the card will cover you for extended overseas stays. Some only cover you for 30 days, while others will cover you for 90 days. If you purchase a policy for 1 year, this does not mean that the trip is an uninterrupted trip overseas. Many of these cards require a return to your country of origin with a certain time limitation, such as 30 days.
